<p>More Americans than ever have reached millionaire status. More than one out of every 15 people in the U.S. has a net worth of over $1 million, a growth of over 379,000 people from last year. Wealth includes home values, stocks, retirement plans and other investments. But fewer people reach an even more exclusive class, in which their annual income — not just the total value of their assets — surpasses $1 million.</p>
<p>Yahoo News used data from the Internal Revenue Service to identify the states that are home to the most households with adjusted gross incomes of $1 million or more. The data hints at where the ultra-wealthy are living and moving to. While coastal states dominate the top five, Wyoming comes close behind. Outdoor recreation, a lack of state income tax and a growing luxury real estate market have drawn more wealthy people to the landlocked state. Neighboring states are also seeing similar growth, with Montana and Idaho recording over triple the amount of million-dollar households in 2022 compared to 2013. Connecticut, despite experiencing some of the slowest growth in million-dollar households from 2013 to 2022, remains far ahead of other states with nearly 90 per 10,000 households.</p>
