“Sex and the City”'s Smith resurfaces after 3 years with a story to tell

Jason Lewis, who famously played Smith on Sex and the City, teased "creative work" is coming after being absent from an onscreen project for years.

It's been more than two decades since Jason Lewis awed audiences, andKim Cattrall's character Samantha Jones, with his physique as sexy model Jerry "Smith" Jerrod onSex and the City.

While Lewis took on a mix of onscreen roles since his last appearance as Smith on 2010'sSex and the City 2,the actor hasn't appeared in a project since 2020. On Wednesday, Lewis took to a newly createdInstagramaccount to address his absence while hinting at having something in the works.

"Three years ago, I went quiet. Not because I had nothing to say but because I had something to do," Lewis began his video. "The kind of creative work that doesn't leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that."

Per Lewis' IMDb, he has one upcoming project titledRestaveksthat is in post-production. While the actor didn't address what he specifically has in the pipeline, he explained that "it's the kind of work that needs to find its people though."

"I'm still in it," Lewis added. "And I'm far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I've been doing. More to come."

Originally a model who appeared in campaigns for Guess?, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss, Lewis first appeared on HBO's hit seriesSex and the Cityin 2003 in the Season 6 premiere titled "Great Sexpectations."

Smith became a key love interest for Samantha, and remained on the series until it ended in 2004. He reprised his role in 2008'sSex and the City: The Movieand its 2010 sequel. Despite their passionate relationship throughout the series and films, the characters eventually broke up in the sequel due to Samantha feeling she was losing her independence by remaining in the relationship, famously telling Smith, "I love you, but I love me more."

Cattrall's iconic Samantha seemingly had faded from theSex and the Cityuniverse herself when theactress said she didn't want to appearin the spinoff seriesAnd Just Like That... Samantha's absence was explained as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Samantha having a falling-out, and the high-powered PR exec having relocated to London. However, the two eventually reconnected over the death of Carrie's husband, John James Preston (Chris Noth).

Samantha returned on screen for the Season 2 finale, with Samantha calling Carrie to pay her respects to Carrie's iconic New York City apartment before she moved out.
