Becky G is back with another Fabletics athleisure collection again inspired by her love for fitness and her Los Angeles roots

Her second apparel drop with the brand includes activewear sets and separates that come in bold colorways and sexy silhouettes

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the singer shares her involvement in the collection and more

Before fitness and wellness became a part of Becky G's daily routine, it was something she'd "always been in and out of." But at 24, she decided it was time to lock in, and when she did, "I was like, wow, no one benefits from a healthy body more than me."

Her journey led her to Fabletics, the athleisure-wear brand that's now collaborated on two collections with the 28-year-old "Que Haces" singer, the second of which she opens up to PEOPLE about over Zoom.

"How you dress is how you feel, it's a form of expression. So, when I go to the gym, I want to feel my best self, and I want to feel supported in that," she explains, adding that she wanted to weave this very outlook into her partnership with the brand.

Versatility and functionality were huge musts for Becky when she made the sophomore collection. That's proven through the performance-driven designs and upgrade to Fabletics' flexible PureLuxe Fabric. "I'm wearing Fabletics to the gym, the grocery store, at home when I'm going in on Sunday cleaning. That ability to go really anywhere in these clothes is something I really appreciate."

But the clothes being performance-driven does not mean they're designed without flair. "We came back, but even more colorful, obviously because the pieces are inspired by my hometown, Los Angeles," she explains, adding that the PureLuxe Mini Dress in Raspberry Fizz and the bra and biker shorts set in Green Abyss are "fire" options. Her favorite way to take the pieces from day to night, errand to errand? Teaming them with a "little kitten heel" and a hot accessory.

Becky's love for the West Coast is what similarly inspired her debut collection. Reflecting on her favorite parts of the City of Angels, Becky mentions the "hardworking" street vendors she frequents after concerts ("They're the first ones you see when you're going in, and they're the last ones you see coming out") and her childhood haunts like Kelso Ranch Market and Randy's Donuts. "I feel like the color story that we have in this collection brings so much joy. It makes you feel really happy when you're wearing it."

Over the years, Becky has truly become a style chameleon and she isn't afraid to let her bold style shine on and off the stage. Although she doesn't see herself completely switching things up in the near future. She admits that's the "most anti-pop star" thing about her.

"I'm not going to do a full rebrand where I change my hair and I change my name and I pretend that I'm this whole new artist. I actually think my last two albums, Esquinas and Encuentros, really revealed a lot of who I am on the inside, and I've never been more grateful to be able to share that in my artistry and with my fans."

"I don't want to abandon who I really am. I think now more than ever, I've never been more proud to be a young Chicana Mexican-American born and raised in L.A. who just loves music," she explains. "I would say this version of Becky G is here and she's here to stay."

More recently, the Grammy-nominated artist and actress has been spreading this message on a new stage — the runway and at Fashion Week shows across the world.

"I didn't necessarily see myself in those spaces, and it's because it wasn't always necessarily represented either. There was definitely a stereotype of a Latina that was one-size-fits-all when it came to fashion and beauty trends," she says. However now, "It's really about allowing myself to embrace little Becky and understanding that we always deserve to be in those spaces. It's really empowering for me."
