Lawrence Taylor released from hospital after NFL Hall of Famer dealt with stomach-related issue

Lawrence Taylor, a New York Giants legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker, has been released from the hospital, his attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Yahoo Sports

Taylor, 67,was hospitalized in in Morristown, New Jersey, on April 20with what Eiglarsh described last monthin a statement to The Athleticas a “stomach-related issue” that didn’t “appear to be life-threatening.” Taylor is recovering from pancreatitis at his home in Florida, according to The California Post.

“He is grateful to now be on the road to recovery and hopes to be back on the golf course soon,” Eiglarsh said in an email to the AP.

“Mr. Taylor would also like to sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of love, support and prayers. Knowing that so many people were thinking of him and praying for his recovery gave him strength and helped carry him through a very challenging time.”

Taylor is best known for his time with the Giants, with whom he built the résumé of arguably the greatest defensive player of all time. New York selected him second overall in 1981, and over 13 seasons with the team, he piled up 142 career sacks, recording double-digit sacks in seven different seasons and maxing out with 20.5 during his 1986 campaign. That time around, he won NFL MVP as well as his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which he also won each of his first two seasons in the league

A 10-time All-Pro, Taylor helped the Giants win a pair of Super Bowls, the first over the Denver Broncos during the aforementioned 1986 season and the next over the Buffalo Bills to wrap the 1990 campaign.

He still ranks ninth all-time in career sacks. The Giants retired his No. 56 jersey, and he was inducted into the Hall in 1999.

Taylor’s legacy has been complicated by off-field transgressions and controversy.

In 2011, Taylor was arrested and pleaded guilty in New York to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute. As a result, he was sentenced to six years of probation. Plus, he was ordered to register as a sex offender.

In both 2021 and 2024, according to the AP, Taylor was charged in Florida with failing to update his residence change on the state’s registry.

Most recently, Taylor was at the White House last year when President Donald Trumpsigned an executive order to establish a councilon sports, fitness and nutrition.

Barack Obama encourages Stephen Colbert to run for president ahead of “Late Show ”final episode: 'The bar has changed'

  • The two had a conversation at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

  • The final episode for CBS' long-running program airs May 21.

Barack Obamais helping to send offThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

With just weeks to go before the long-running CBS program airs its final episode on May 21, the former president made presumably his last appearance, givingStephen Colberthis props for helming the show for over a decade.

"I'm looking for a new gig soon, and a lot of people tell me I should run for president," Colbert said during their pre-taped interview from the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, which opens June 19.

Obama told Colbert he had the look. When asked how dumb it was for people to encourage Colbert to seek the White House, Obama replied, "The bar has changed."

He chuckled and added, "Let me put it this way, I think that you could perform significantly better than some folks that we've seen."

When asked if that was an endorsement, Obama was quick to clarify that "it was not."

The 44th president also answered a serious question about what powers he believes the president should not have. He said the country would "have to do some work" to "return to this basic norm" and "probably now have to codify it."

For example, "The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting," Obama said.

At the end of his interview, Obama told Colbert, "Thank you for everything that you have done. I know we've only got a few shows left, but I know you're gonna make them count, because you always have."

Obama previously appeared on Colbert'sLate Showduring his presidency in 2016 and returned in 2020 following the election.

CBS announced last July thattheLate Showfranchise would endafter more than three decades, citing the decision as "purely a financial" one.

"The Late Show With Stephen Colbertwill end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season," CBS said in a statement. "We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retireThe Late Showfranchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television."

The statement continued, "This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

When Colbert addressed the cancellation, he told an audibly upset audience that he shared their feelings, saying, "We get to do this show for each other, every day, all day, and I've had the pleasure and the responsibility of sharing what we do every day with you in front of this camera for the last 10 years."

"Let me tell you, it is a fantastic job," Colbert said. "I wish somebody else was getting it. And it's a job that I'm looking forward to doing with this usual gang of idiots for another 10 months. It's going to be fun."

The Late Show With Stephen Colbertairs at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Torkelson had gone five games without a homer after tying a franchise record by homering in five consecutive games.

Kevin McGonigle had two RBI singles and Matt Vierling added a two-run double for Detroit, which has won all five of its home series. Hao-Yu Lee chipped in a run-scoring single.

Tyler Holton served as an opener and retired two of the three batters he faced. Brant Hunter (4-0) tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Rangers starter Jack Leiter tied his career high with 10 strikeouts. He lasted 6 2/3 innings and was charged with five runs.

Leiter struck out six of the first eight batters he faced. He didn't allow a baserunner until he issued a four-pitch walk to Riley Greene. Torkelson fell behind in the count 0-2, then clubbed a hanging slider over the left field wall to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.

McGonigle's line drive single in the sixth knocked in Jake Rogers, who led off the inning with a liner that bounced past center fielder Evan Carter for a triple.

Texas scored in the seventh on Kyle Higashioka's RBI groundout. The Tigers then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Vierling's two-run bloop double.

Up next

The Rangers begin a three-game road series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. RHP Jacob deGrom (2-1, 2.01) will start for Texas. Ace LHP Tarik Skubal (3-2, 2.70) will start the opener of a three-game home series against Boston on Monday.

Fox Sports launches 'Miracle' World Cup ad campaign featuring USMNT

TheU.S. men's national teammight need a miracle to win theWorld Cupon home soil this summer.

USA TODAY Sports

In its new ad campaign for the tournament, Fox Sports imagines a world where it actually happens.

With just over a month until the World Cup kicks off, Fox launched its campaign around the 2026 World Cup, starting with a spot called "Miracle."

The ad envisions the USMNT and Brazil facing off in the final on July 19 in New Jersey. Christian Pulisic takes a last-second corner kick, leading to the tournament-clinching goal.

With the Elvis Presley song “The Impossible Dream" playing in the background, the country erupts.

The ad features cameos from several USMNT players including Pulisic, Tim Ream and Diego Luna, as well as former U.S. coach Bruce Arena. Fox Sports analysts Tom Brady and Zlatan Ibrahimović also make an appearance.

The last cameo comes from Mike Eruzione, captain of the "Miracle on Ice" 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. Eruzione, as you'd expect, has some opinions about miracles.

Watch the full ad below:

“We really wanted the tone of this spot to evolve as you watch it, beginning with something that feels like it’s grounded, but quickly grows to be more and more improbable until finally reality can’t resist calling,” said Matthew Woodhams Roberts, chief creative officer of Special US, which made the ad along with FOX Sports Marketing.

“Of course, then we have Mike Eruzione and a living reminder that no dream is too big. So, we’re saying there’s a chance…maybe.”
