Caitlyn Jenner was a regular on Keeping Up with the Kardashians until her divorce from matriarch Kris Jenner in 2014
The former couple had limited contact for years following their split, and their daughter, Kendall Jenner, has described their relationship as "distant"
However, Kris invited Caitlyn to a family dinner during a 2025 episode of The Kardashians
No one does drama like the Kardashian-Jenner family — and for years, Caitlyn Jenner was right in the thick of it.
After being married for over 20 years, Kris Jenner filed for divorce from the former Olympian in September 2014. Caitlyn, who had been a staple on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, stepped back as a regular fixture on the family's reality series following their split.
However, she continued to appear as a guest until the show concluded in 2021, even documenting her gender identity journey after coming out as transgender in 2015. Caitlyn also starred in her own spinoff, I Am Cait, which ran from 2015 to 2016.
When Hulu announced the family's new reality series, The Kardashians, in 2022, Caitlyn expressed her disappointment about not being included.
"I was there when this started from day one," she wrote on X. "I watched it grow. And doing the show for almost 20 seasons was one of the highlights of my life."
The reality star added in another X post, "Of course at the same time it is unfortunate to not be given the opportunity to continue with the show."
Although she may not have been asked to join the show as a series regular, Caitlyn made a surprise appearance during a family dinner in an October 2025 episode of The Kardashians. Aside from some awkwardness, Khloé Kardashian shouted out her mom's "growth" for inviting her ex over.
"They didn't have a good relationship for years after their divorce," Khloé said in a confessional. "Things were said. Weaponizing some situations to make my mom look a way that just wasn't truthful. And the fact that my mom can put all of that behind her — or on pause for a second — it's really, really big of her."

Caitlyn wished she and Kris were "closer"

During a November 2021 episode of Big Brother VIP, Caitlyn revealed that her relationship with her ex-wife wasn't as "good as it should be."
"I don't have any hard feelings towards her," she said in a clip from the reality competition series. "We did a great job and this and that. Yeah, I wish it was closer, but it's not."
The reality star said her desire to repair things with Kris came down to one thing — their children. "That's always the way when you have that. It's all about how the mother and father get along together. Is it easy, is it good when they see each other? Is there any tension?"
Kim and Caitlyn made up after family drama

Caitlyn's relationship with her stepdaughter, Kim Kardashian, hasn't always been steady. In 2017, she threatened to stop spending time with her after reading her memoir, The Secrets of My Life, which she felt positioned Kris in an unfair light.
"If you turn on my mom and you continue to bash us, I can't — even for the sake of my sisters — spend time with someone who doesn't care about my mother," Kim said during an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. "Like enough already."
However, the two have since made up. In 2023, Kim shared a throwback photo on her Instagram Stories of her and Caitlyn to celebrate the reality star's 74th birthday. She captioned the image, "Happy birthday @CaitlynJennerpost ... Love you!"
Caitlyn said she and Kylie are "closer most of the time"

In a January 2021 interview on Dear Media's The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast, Caitlyn revealed that while she has more in common with her daughter, Kendall Jenner, she's felt closer to her youngest, Kylie Jenner.
"I get along very well with the two of them, but Kylie and I just seem to be closer most of the time," Caitlyn revealed. "Kendall's off kind of doing her thing, and Kylie, like, I had dinner last night at Kylie's house. We try to do that once a week, once every two weeks."
The reality star added that Kendall is "a little bit more secretive" while Kylie is "more of an open book."
Caitlyn and Kris had no contact for years after their divorce

Following their 2014 divorce, Kris and Caitlyn reportedly had limited contact. A source told PEOPLE in August 2018 that the former couple only interacted "when they have to for the kids" and spend no time together on their own.
"They can be cordial, but like most exes, they're never going to be best friends," the insider said.
That lack of contact continued, with Caitlyn revealing during an October 2023 interview on ITV's The Morning that she "never" talks to Kris anymore. "I really don't have any more contact with her," she said. "It's kind of sad, because we went through a lot, but there's just a lot there."
However, Kris has spoken about their relationship differently. In an April 2022 interview with Robin Roberts, she described them as "friends" and said they see each other at family events.

When Caitlyn surprised the family during the October 2025 episode of The Kardashians, Kendall shared her surprise at her presence — and that Kris was the one to invite her.
"I definitely wasn't expecting my dad to be here, just knowing the relationship that my mom has with my dad — not that it's bad, it's just distant," she said in a confessional.
Kendall added, "My mom's had a hard time inviting my dad to some of our family gatherings in the past, so it makes me happy that Kylie and I didn't have to ask for my dad to be invited and that my mom just thought it was a good idea."
After Caitlyn left for the night — exchanging hugs with the entire family, including Kris and Kim — Kris reflected on the evening, saying she was grateful her ex came to say goodbye to the house they once shared.
"I'm so happy that we were all here and we were able to say goodbye to a house that brought us so much joy and love; blood, sweat and tears; highs and lows — and that Caitlyn was there," she said. "It's been a really long road, but it was Caitlyn's house too."
Kendall said she "compartmentalizes" her relationship with her dad because they have "completely different views"

During that same episode of The Kardashians, Kendall opened up about the frustrations she experiences in her relationship with Caitlyn.
"I have to compartmentalize my relationship with my Dad in a way because I love her," the supermodel said in a confessional interview. "She's my dad. We have a good relationship. But sometimes I get frustrated with her with certain things because we just have completely different views on things."
However, Kendall added that she still "always" wants to include Caitlyn and worries that she gets lonely. "You don't ever want someone to be sad," she said, "especially your dad and someone you love and care about."
