The game is about to get flipped upside down on *Squid Game: The Challenge*.
Netflix's reality competition series based on *Squid Game* returns for a second season next month, and the first trailer reveals some shocking twists. In addition to the expected drama between the ruthless and emotional players, it looks like the remaining competitors are going to band together to mutiny against the game during Mingle.

The footage teases that the players will link up during Mingle, holding hands, and refusing to play. There's no telling how the jumpsuit-clad guards will react to this revolution, but it's definitely a case of life imitating art after the characters in the scripted drama led a bloody — but failed — rebellion against the game in the second season of the Korean drama.
Elsewhere in the trailer, new games are teased, including what looks like a life-sized Chutes and Ladders board, Pentathlon, and the return of Marbles. But the more juicy hints are the players plotting deviously to betray everyone to win the whole thing.

"In this game, loyalty can get you pretty far, but betrayal can win you $4.56 million," one competitor says, while another declares, "We're playing for ourselves, not for friendships."
One player in particular announces to everyone that his girlfriend back home found out she's expecting a baby with him, only for him to gleefully reveal in a confessional, "This baby doesn't exist." Everyone loves a reality TV villain!

"We're super excited for everyone to see season 2 — weirdly, more excited than [we were about] season 1," executive producer Tim Harcourt previously told *.*
And if you loved season 1's fan-favorite mother-son duo Player 302/LeAnn Wilcox Plutnicki and Player 301/Trey Plutnicki, the producers have good news: "We've leaned into relationships even more in this season than we did in the first," executive producer John Hay said. "That's one of the most powerful things about the drama and it's powerful for us too, and so that ups the stakes."**

The producers were so pleased with Trey and LeAnn's ultimately tragic arc that they wanted to replicate it even more in season 2 by casting lots of real-life loved ones.

"We have siblings, we have parents and children," Hay said. "The Trey and LeAnn story was very powerful and surprised us all at the start. Having seen it play out, you then wonder what would happen if there were more pairs, more siblings, more parents and children, and lo and behold, that has been really, really interesting in the way it's changed the dynamics of the game."
*Squid Game: The Challenge* season 2 premieres Nov. 4 on Netflix.
