Surveillance video captured two black bears taking over a luxury gym in Aspen, Colorado, in the middle of the night on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The bears' visit to Ajax Fitness, located in the downtown area, resulted in $400 worth of damage, according to Storyful.

In the video, the animals can be seen ransacking the establishment to satisfy their cravings, snacking on protein shakes, coffee and supplements.

According to Storyful and a Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) news release, the incident occurred as the bears entered the season of hyperphagia, where they "will spend up to 20 hours a day trying to search out and eat as much food as possible as they fatten up for winter."

"They start feeding for 22 hours a day to gain the 20,000 calories a day they need to survive hibernation," CPW said. "Bears will work hard to get the calories they need, and can easily damage property, vehicles, and homes. Bears are very smart, and have great memories — once they find food near homes, campgrounds, vehicles or communities, they'll come back for more."

Gym owner says bear took a dip in cold plunge

Two black bears were seen breaking into an Aspen gym in the middle of the night, causing more than $400 worth of damages, according to the gym owner.

Ajax Fitness owner David Mills told Storyful the bears entered the gym around 4:30 a.m., and at one point, one of them enjoyed a cold plunge.

"For nearly two hours, the pair roamed the gym like VIP guests on an after-hours tour," Mills told the outlet.

Following the incident, Mills set up an electric mat to keep the bears from entering again, and it worked when they returned the next day, Storyful and 9 News reported.
