Fresh from their adventure-packed season 2 premiere, the *NCIS: Origins* cast got a surprise visit from a very special agent — *Mission: Impossible *star Tom Cruise.

"While on the [Paramount] lot, Tom Cruise stopped by the set of *NCIS: Origins* to say hi!" the NCISVerse captioned a photo of Cruise posing with several cast members posted to its official Instagram account on Wednesday. The *Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning *star's visit was a truly serendipitous encounter while he was Paramount lot visiting, ** has learned.

The Oscar winner posed with *Origin *showrunner David J. North, stars Austin Stowell, Daniel Lee Bellomy, Caleb Foote, Tyla Abercrumbie, and special effects foreman Taylor Estévez in the photo, as well as posing for shots shared to the cast's own pages.

Stowell, who plays a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the prequel, posted a photo originally shared by North to his Instagram story, writing, "Gibbs & Hunt NCIS: Mission Impossible."

North also shared a post on his Instagram page with several photos of Cruise chatting with the cast and crew on the *Origins *set. "As we kick off a new season of *Origins*, it was awesome to have [Cruise] stop by yesterday to hang out and show some much support to our show and the entire @ncisverse," North's caption reads.

"[Co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal] and I took inspo from the bar in *Top Gun* when we dreamt up our bar, Daly's," he added. "So we were stoked he approved lol. Thanks for all the advice and the love, Tom."

The unexpected celebrity visit comes a day after the CBS prequel aired the premiere of its second season.

Tuesday's episode addressed the fate of Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez (Mariel Molino), a special agent who we learn is dearly important to Gibbs, despite her never being mentioned on the flagship series. Season 1 ended with a tense cliffhanger in which Lala got into a fiery car accident, leaving viewers wondering whether she'd live or die.

EW asked creators North and Monreal straight-up whether or not Lala survives the climactic car crash at the end of the season 1 finale. Their response? "We will neither confirm nor deny."

Molino was also mum about Lala's fate, but she warned fans that anything is possible. "In the past, the franchise hasn't been scared of taking risks with characters and storylines," she said. "I also had my share of questions when I read it and when I did it, but all I can say is that you have to tune in to season 2 to see what happens."**

When does 'NCIS: Origins' season 2 come out? All about the return of young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (and Lala's fate)

"This will have gigantic ramifications on him," added Stowell. "No matter what happens, he just cannot seem to stop hurting people. I don't know whether it'll make him double down on his feelings for her or make him so scared that he wants to completely retract."**

Stowell added, "I know this much. He's going to find out that she was in a car accident after it seems like she was on the way to his house, so the guilt will only build."

As fans found out this week, Lala did indeed survive her crash and has already returned to work. But that doesn't mean all is well.

As North told EW following the season 1 finale, "the story that older Gibbs is referring to [in the season's closing narration] is still being told." Monreal, meanwhile, added, "We don't fully understand that yet because we haven't seen the aftermath of what happens in the finale. We don't see his reaction to it yet. We don't know all of the intricacies of everything happening around it. We can't fully comprehend yet what he's meaning by that because we haven't seen it in totality."

New episodes of *NCIS: Origins* air Tuesdays on CBS and stream on Paramount+.**
