*The Beauty* is starting off with a bang. ****

Creator* *Ryan Murphy previewed his upcoming FX sci-fi thriller at New York Comic Con on Saturday evening, showcasing exclusive footage and teasing "exploding supermodels" and "a lot of body horror" in the first few episodes. He was accompanied on the panel by series stars Evan Peters, Jeremy Pope, Ashton Kutcher, Rebecca Hall, and Anthony Ramos. ****

Murphy explained that the series, which is based on Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley's graphic novels of the same name, centers around a "fountain of youth drug" created by billionaires that seems too good to be true. Spoiler alert: It very much is.

"Because it's a sci-fi show, there is a catch. They soon find out there's a glitch in the shot in which you only last 855 days or something and then you explode, and then it's all over," Murphy teased on stage. "As our story begins, which I love doing, there's a rash of exploding supermodels all over the globe who are captured on cellphones. So Evan and Rebecca are called in to investigate." **

Footage shown at the event featured model Bella Hadid going into a rageful frenzy and dumping a pot of hot water on herself, as well as Peters and Hall's F.B.I. agents traveling to Venice to investigate the murder of a model found in her bed with her chest sliced into ribbons and a mysterious marking left in blood by her door.

Prior to the clip, Murphy explained to attendees that the model's death was not a side effect of the drug, but rather a hit carried out by Ramos' character. No, as it turns out, the explosive side effects of the drug — "self-ignition ketosis," as Murphy described it — are much worse.

"The point of the show, by the way, during these transformations, is that you take the beauty and when your time is up, your time is up," the creator said. "You literally burn from within and you collapse into what looks to be something out of the movie *Alien*. We called it the flesh sacks. And then from that comes a rebirth."

In another scene, Ramos and Pope's characters enter a home seemingly looking for a woman only to find a large gloopy pink sludge residue left in front of her refrigerator. An almost feral woman then attacks the pair, biting at Ramos and sending him to the ground before Pope stops her with a frying pan to the back of the head.

Pope noted that the rebirths were a "very physical" process. "What I thought was really interesting — that we talked about early on — was just about the rebirth in the sense of watching someone learn how to use their new body," he said. "And [Murphy] said something to me where it's like, 'I want to watch this person go from being 8 years old learning how to move and walk to this 30-year-old powerful, strong being."

As a result, he explained that it became less "about the horror and the pain of the body breaking" and almost more like a "ballet." He continued, "It became someone discovering this inner and outer beauty that they have been searching for, so I thought that was really interesting. When we were talking about, 'Well, what the f--- is the transformation?' You want it to be screaming and bone breaking and it's *that*, but then there's also something really beautiful about it." **

Murphy noted that the series is told through a "combination of really heightened genres," adding, "It has amazing action sequences. It has a lot of body horror. It has a great love story. It has a great buddy-comedy thing going on, and it has a great villain."****In the final scene, Kutcher's biotech billionaire could be seen ignoring doctors' advice about the drug and instead telling them to dilute its mixture so that it makes them more money. **

Kutcher explained at the event that he does consider his character to be a "good guy," if only because the billionaire really does think that he's doing the right thing. "This guy has created a drug that makes you the most beautiful version of yourself and people want it. Why is that bad?" he asked. "It's bad because maybe you didn't tell people they're gonna *explode*, but it's not a problem because I fixed that, too! With the boosters! So it's a great gig and a great deal for everyone!"**

He added, "When you get braces, you got to go to the dentist and still clean your teeth! They got a fallen trial situation. You gotta keep spending money!"

While a release date for *The Beauty* has not been officially announced, Murphy revealed at the panel that it's slated to be released sometime in "the third week of January" 2026.
