Leonardo DiCaprio pens a touching tribute as he mourns the passing of renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed on social media by the Jane Goodall Institute, noting that the 91-year-old died of natural causes while in California as part of a speaking tour.
"Dr. Goodall's discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world," the post reads.
Following the heartbreaking news, the award-winning actor joined fellow celebrities and influential figures in expressing their condolences.
In a post on his Instagram, DiCaprio shared a lengthy message showcasing the great contribution of the global activist whom he considered a "true hero for the planet" and his "dear friend."
"Jane Goodall devoted her life to protecting our planet and giving a voice to the wild animals and the ecosystems they inhabit. Her groundbreaking research on Chimpanzees in Tanzania transformed our understanding of how our closest relatives live, socialize, and think—reminding us that we are deeply connected not only to Chimpanzees and the other great apes, but to all life," he wrote.

Moreover, the Hollywood A-lister highlighted the decades of sacrifice and service of Goodall to make a difference and "awaken generations to the wonder of the natural world."
"She spoke directly to the next generation, instilling hope, responsibility, and the belief that every individual can make a difference. She inspired millions to care, to act, and to hope. She never stopped," he added.
The Titanic star also wrote a touching message to Goodall's family and encouraged the public to honor "her legacy by supporting @janegoodallinst and other conservation groups."
Lastly, the 50-year-old actor revealed his final message to the late British primatologist.
"My last message to Jane was simple: 'You are my hero.' Now, we all must carry the torch for her in protecting our one shared home," he added.
The Wolf of Wall Street star maintained a close relationship with Goodall due to their deep commitment to environmental and wildlife conservation.
In 2018, she joined DiCaprio on stage at the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala in California. The event marked the foundation's 20th anniversary since it was established in 1998.

Dedicated to protecting Earth's remaining wild places, the organization also seeks to nurture harmony between humanity and nature, echoing Goodall's lifelong mission.
