Diane Keaton had a long and well‑respected film career, but the sheer volume of tributes pouring in after her death reflects the impact the film icon had on both her fans and her friends. Keaton passed away at the age of 79 following a very private health battle she reportedly shared only with her closest family and friends.

The Godfather and Father of the Bride star was as charming as she was talented, wearing her authenticity and emotions on her sleeve. Journalist Maria Shriver, a former neighbor of Keaton's, is adding an emotional tribute to the many remembrances shared on social media. Shriver's is a tear‑jerker—tissues and waterproof mascara may be required.

Shriver, the former First Lady of California and a respected journalist, shared a striking photo of Keaton—wide‑brim hat on, long sleeves, neck covered. Alongside the photo, Shriver wrote an emotional caption:

"Diane Keaton was a true original. I grew up watching her, marveling at her. I watched as she made her mark across all kinds of creative fields. She was always growing, creating, staying true to her original self. We lived in the same neighborhood, ate at the same neighborhood restaurant. She was always joyful, kind, generous in spirit. Every time I saw her, I said to myself 'now that is a true original.' She did life her way, and that is one hell of an achievement. Safe passage. ♥️"

Fans, still in disbelief over her passing, reveled in Shriver's reflections on Diane Keaton and rushed to the comments to join the conversation.

"I have been thinking of Diane Keaton all day. I still can't believe she is gone. She is part of my generation on multiple levels. My best memory, and I still laugh out loud to this day, is Annie Hall in the kitchen with the boiling lobsters," wrote one longtime fan.

Another added, "Who does not love Diane Keaton? What a sparkling soul. 🙌❤️ A true original is right. Very sad to see her go."

A fan "gutted" by Keaton's passing offered: "Love this actress😢. So shocked. Just really gutted😢"

What Is Known About Diane Keaton's Death

While the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, newly released dispatch audio from the Los Angeles Police Department offers insight into the moments before her death. In the audio, first responders were sent to Keaton's home under the instruction, "Rescue 19, person down."

Although Keaton was not named in the call, fire officials later confirmed that the person transported from the home was the actress.

"She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her," a friend of Keaton's said. "It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit."
