Julia Fox opened up about ending friendships with people who "couldn't handle" her personal success
"At a certain point you just have to let go," she told her Night Always Comes costar Vanessa Kirby in the Interview magazine conversation
The actress, who has son Valentino, 4½, previously wrote about the importance of friendship and finding a "chosen family"
Julia Fox had to terminate friendships because of her career success.
The actress, 35, spoke to her Night Always Comes costar Vanessa Kirby for Interview magazine, at one point revealing how her friendships have been put to the test during her rise to fame.
"I've had to leave so many people in the past because they couldn't handle that I was successful and they weren't," said Fox, who had a breakout role in 2019's Uncut Gems. "And I tried to help, but at a certain point you just have to let go."
Fox added, "In this industry, there's been moments where I look around and I'm like, 'Damn, I hang out with the people I work with more than my friends or my family.' The people you work with kind of become your family and your friends in a weird way. It's the best part of the job. They're there to celebrate your wins, and they're on your team."

In the Interview conversation, Fox said that "friendship love" is the "best kind of love." Oscar nominee Kirby, 37, echoed that it's common to "make these friendships on set" while working: "I've always had such a close relationship with all my actor friends."
"Meeting you on this movie and going really deep with you was so beautiful. And I know that you'll always be in my life now," she told Fox.
She added, "The bond that we had and the process work we did. I mean, we were filming together for what, two days?" Said Fox, "But it felt like a lifetime."

Fox opened up about the value of "chosen family" and how her friendships have strengthened her personal life in an August 2024 essay for ELLE.
"It took years to find my chosen family, but when I did, something clicked. It was magic," she wrote at the time. "It was as if they could feel what I had desperately been missing and they willingly stepped into this void, offering me radical acceptance."
She added, "The people I surround myself with represent a beautiful tapestry of unique human relationships woven together by love, choice, and mutual support. We embrace each other's flaws and we hold each other tighter during the difficult moments."
Night Always Comes is now streaming on Netflix.
