Denise Winkelman has set her first stand-up comedy special, "Bougie on a Budget," which will be available for purchase on Aug. 18, exclusively on Apple TV.
In the special, produced by Comedy Dynamics, Winkelman details her journey from growing up with "hick" parents in a small, conservative town in Minnesota, to moving to Los Angeles and embracing her identity as a transgender woman. Plus, she gives her take on how to live a life of luxury while on a budget.
"Blending sharp observational humor with unflinching honesty, Denise transforms personal struggles into comedic gold," reads the logline. "Whether she's breaking down small-town absurdities or riffing on the joys and indignities of being fabulous on a tight budget, her wit and warmth shine through every moment."
"This special is more than just jokes," Winkelman said in a statement. "It's about finding joy in the chaos, embracing who you are, and maybe learning how to stretch a dollar while still looking cute."
The hour is directed by Russell Robertson, who produced via his Zenith Films banner. "Denise has an electric presence and a story that deserves to be heard," Robertson said. "We wanted to create a comedy special that felt as dynamic and unapologetically real as she is."
Winkelman is a comedian, screenwriter and model who was also formerly a professional wrestler. She was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Boston Comedy Festival and has performed three times at the Burbank Comedy Festival. She performs regularly across Southern California at clubs like the Comedy Store, the Hollywood Improv, the Ice House and Flappers.
