Kid Cudi has revealed the "illest" part of being a newlywed with wife and designer Lola Abecassis Sartore
"No matter where we are on the planet, she'll be here," he tells PEOPLE
Cudi's new book, Cudi: The Memoir, is out now
Kid Cudi has found "complete, total peace" in his life, and much of that is thanks to the love he's discovered in the process.
The 41-year-old multi-platinum rapper and author, who earlier this month dropped Cudi: The Memoir, is opening up to PEOPLE about his world now as a husband, less than three months after he tied the knot with designer Lola Abecassis Sartore.
Cudi, who once rapped of being a "lonely stoner" in his 2008 breakthrough single "Day 'n' Nite" is now "lonely no more," he says.
"I got a homie that's going to be there for me, [who] ain't going to leave me alone. No matter where we are on the planet, she'll be here. I'll be there. We're halfway across the country from each other and I still know that I could call her, that I can connect with her, that she'll be there for me if I ever have a moment of weakness," Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, says. "If I ever need some help, she'll lift me up."
"So I think that's the illest part about the whole thing. I mean, of course, there's so many awesome things that come with marriage, but I think the biggest thing is that I got a homie with me now."

It wasn't always that way. Cudi's new memoir details his past struggles with loneliness, as well as experiences with addiction and depression. As he tells PEOPLE, he "spent so much time alone" in the past. "Weekends spent in my house, not going nowhere, in a room by myself, smoking all day long, not talking to nobody," he says. "You know what I'm saying? This big-ass f---ing house and now I got a homie."
"The best thing is knowing I don't have to go through s--- by myself no more. You know what I'm saying? I got a homie now permanently in my life that's going to be there for me and uplift me when I need it. And I'm going to be the same for her."

Cudi: The Memoir
Cudi and Sartore wed in the South of France on June 28, during a ceremony that she described to Vogue as "bliss" and the "purest moment." It also featured an homage to late friend Virgil Abloh, whose debut 2018 Louis Vuitton fashion show marked the couple's first meeting — while Sartore was "working behind the scenes" and Cudi was walking the runway.
In the years since, Cudi says his secret to a happy relationship with Sartore, 30, has been to simply "live with love."
"If you love and respect your partner, it should be pretty easy. It's that simple. And if you found the right person, it should be easy," Cudi says. "Of course, you're going to bump heads sometimes. And there's no way you're going to live in a house with someone every day, you know what I'm saying? Morning and night… Y'all going to bump heads, but it's just about you get through it."
"And you love that person. You made a commitment to this person and it takes a level of maturity to dive into a marriage," he adds. "You got to really be committed and loyal to somebody. And most men can't do that. I don't know, man, I just feel really blessed, really f---ing blessed."

Kid Cudi's Free
Cudi's new memoir — which arrives alongside his 11th studio album Free and has since become a New York Times Best Seller — details the rapper's early life in Cleveland, rise to stardom in the late '00s and life now as a loving father and husband who continues to build upon his legacy across mediums.
"I hope it gives [fans] some hope that you do come out on the other side and into the light and God puts us through things because he wants to teach us something," Cudi says of the book and this moment in his career. "It's always a lesson in there, always. Even if it doesn't seem like it could be possible, because in the moment, everything just seems like all is lost, you know what I mean? But if you really think about it, everything happens for a reason."
Cudi: The Memoir is out now via Simon & Schuster and Free is now available via Wicked Awesome and Republic Records.
