Slovenia: Mountain Charm and Low Rent in Fairytale Towns -

Monthly living costs: $1,500 to $2,200

Many of Slovenia's mountain towns look straight out of a fairytale, so it's an idyllic place to settle outside of the U.S. While there, you can explore the country's many lakes and hiking trails, or sip wine in the various vineyards. Public transportation makes it easy — and affordable — to get around, while you can find rent in smaller towns like Skofja Loka for about $380 per month.

Albania: Beachfront Living and Dollar Espressos -

Monthly living costs: $1,500 to $2,000

If you want to enjoy beach life without the high price tag, Albania might be your best bet. Coastal areas like Vlore and Saranda have low living costs, including cafes that serve espresso for $1, restaurants with affordable seafood and modern apartments that cost a fraction of what you'd pay in other European countries.

Czech Republic: Historic Cities With Budget-Friendly Perks -

Monthly living costs: $1,800 to $2,500

Outside of Prague, you can find many affordable places to live in the Czech Republic, including cities like Brno and Olomouc. You can find cheap fresh food and affordable rent in many cities here, making it easy to live comfortably for under $2,000 a month as a couple.

Dominican Republic: Coastal Luxury at a Fraction of US Prices -

Monthly living costs: $2,000 to $3,000

This popular beach vacation destination is also quite livable thanks to its strong infrastructure and good healthcare. You can enjoy the relaxed coastal life here for much less than you would pay in Miami or the Bahamas — though you can still get the high-end amenities you'd expect at those locations, including beachfront condos, private marinas, golf courses and equestrian clubs.
